What is Heart Rate Variability?
The time between two consequent heart beats, in milliseconds, is never the same. The difference is called variability. Opposite to the common belief that regular heart rate is sign of a good health, now is well established that more irregularity (variability) of the intervals between the heart beats is better. Heart Rate Variability (HRV) shows the condition of your “milieu interieur” or internal environment. The higher the HRV (usually measured in milliseconds), the better and more balanced state of health your body is. Scientists have associated HRV with the autonomic nervous system.
